Happy 16th Birthday, Dylan!

Dylan and ClarenceTime goes by so fast, doesn't it?

You were my baby until March 29, 2007, when Brady's birth forced you into the dreaded 'middle child' position.

You needn't have worried about losing your place in the limelight. You shine no matter where you're at or what you're doing.
Dylan 1993
You made a statement right off the bat, weighing 10 pounds, 4-1/2 ounces. The hospital staff was impressed! The first thing I said when you were born was, "He looks like a lumberjack!" You were solid as a rock and looked like a mighty man!

As it was then, so it is now. You impress everyone you come in contact with. At 6 feet 2 inches and 245 pounds, some might even feel intimidated!

Dylan Polk Football 2008It's been a blast watching you play center on the football team and I know you're excited about the upcoming season, having a new coach and all.

There's a time to laugh, a time to cry, a time to walk, and now a time to drive! Well, you already know you didn't get a new car for your birthday (guess the old Taurus will have to do), but at least you got a nice laptop, right?

Oh my goodness, has it really been sixteen years? It's hard for me to believe in two short years, you'll be graduating high school!

I'm not ready for you to leave the nest, yet I know the time is fast approaching. Let's enjoy the time we have left, before you go off to college or join the armed forces or run off to NYC to pursue an acting career. The sky's the limit!

Whatever you decide to do, it's going to be fun watching you grow. Keep smiling, keep laughing, and have fun!

I love you, Sweetie!

Dylan,

Happy Birthday!

It has been a pleasure watching you grow and mature. I'm proud of you for doing well in school and on the field, as well as being so well mannered.

And I cannot tell you how many times I've appreciated watching you be so good to little Brady.

With all of the things coming against kids these days, you are about as close to perfect as anyone could expect.

Now if we could only get you to do poop patrol on a regular basis...

Love ya!

Paul

Happy Birthday Dylan!
One piece of advice........don't be in a hurry to grow up and leave home, being an adult is a great deal of responsibility, enjoy being a teenager and being in your parents loving embrace.

Ah, 16-years-old, huh? I've got a son that's 12-years-old.

Got some advice on how to deal with those unruly teen boys?

Happy Birthday Dylan. 16 is such a fun year, so much to offer so much to learn. One thinks of the circle game, cartwheels turn to carwheels round the town...

My daughter gets her license this week. (has been 16 for a few months - just hasn't wanted to drive)

I'm a nervous wreck. How are y'all handling it?

Happy Birthday, Dylan!

Aww! I'm sure you are a proud mama! I ask myself daily where has the time gone as I look at my 3.5 yr old girl, 7 yr old boy and 14 yr old bonus son.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments! Dylan is a treasure to me as I'm sure you have gathered. He had a wonderful birthday (see my post dated 1/22/09 for the details).

The Hawg - Advice for unruly teens? Oh boy, I don't know what to say. I've been blessed with great kids. The only advice I can give (and I know this may not help anyone) is to love them - despite all their shortcomings and keep the lines of communication way open. Talk to them like you would your best friend but make sure they respect you as a parent.

Carol @ SheLives - Yes, I'm nervous about him driving. Oh my goodness! Paul and I have told Dylan that when he gets his license, he will not be allowed to drive at night and he will be limited as to where we allow him to drive during the day! Driving is a very dangerous activity and teenagers are CRAZY! :) I remember what a terribly wild driver I was when I was sixteen. Goodness gracious! It's a wonder I'm alive!

Thanks again everybody for your comments!
