Wheel of Fortune Open Call in Conway

Wheel of FortuneMy daughter, Rachael, and I went to a Wheel of Fortune open-call audition that was held in the town where I live (Conway, Arkansas) last Saturday.

While reading the Saturday paper, I read the Friday auditions drew over 3,000 people. Not knowing how early we should arrive, I decided to go check it out a couple hours before the 4 o'clock show time. It was windy and cold Saturday, so Rachael and I were both decked out in our coats, scarves and gloves. Luckily, there was plenty of room inside the building. There were probably three hundred people in line when we got there.

While in line, everyone was given an application to complete. At 3:30 p.m., they opened up the gate and everyone dropped their applications into the box as they passed through. Rachael and I sat in the bleachers closest to the front.

Laura holding a mini WheelmobileTraveling road show host, Marty Lublin, made the wait worthwhile. He is hilarious! Marty emphasized that personality was key to possibly being chosen to play the real game in Los Angeles. Marty asked each contestant a round of questions like, "What is your name? What do you do? What do you like to do in your spare time?" Whenever someone mentioned they like to dance or sing, he would have them perform on stage. But the funniest thing to me was how he would spin the wheel and then leap into the air to announce the prize the wheel landed on. You'd have to see it to really get how funny it was. Then, like clockwork he'd say, "But ... that's ... not ... ALL!!! Anyway, the whole thing was highly entertaining.

I guess you can tell it doesn't take much to entertain me!

So, did you make the cut? Getting on the wheel?

Worked with a woman in Springdale who was actually on the show. She was ecstatic over it all. She won $10,000 on the show (half of it went to taxes, but she wasn't too heartbroken over it all).

If you had gotten on the show, I think you would have been the deal for real!

Hawg - Unfortunately, neither my daughter or I made the cut. We still had a blast though. Wow! That's cool you know someone who was on the show! My dad and stepmom watch Wheel every night. I called them while we were at the audition to see if they came Friday or Saturday and found out that my dad came to Friday's audition but he didn't get picked either. Oh well! You won't get picked if you don't try! :)

Willy - You should've come on in! :) I saw your post about it so I thought you would go to it.

Paul - The Wheel Deal, Dear! :)
