Sissy Lusk Lost an Amazing 215 Pounds!

Here is another amazing weight loss story. Have you heard about this? Sissy Lusk lost an amazing 215 pounds! I saw her story on CNN last week.

She weighed 345 pounds at her heaviest, and wore size 26 clothes. It took Sissy three years to lose the weight. She currently weighs 130 pounds and wears a size 4/6. She has maintained her current weight of 130 pounds for six years.

Someone asked Sissy, “How in the world did you get that big?” She replied, “One pound at a time. But then one pound becomes two and two becomes ten and ten becomes twenty.”

She tried many diets in the past: Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig, Quick Weight Loss, Cabbage Soup Diet, The Rice Diet, Weight Watchers, and a liquid diet.

The turning point came one hot summer day, while Sissy was at a gas station. She was paying for her gas, and a little boy standing behind her looked up at her and asked, “Why are you so fat?” She was mortified. That was the moment she decided she couldn't go on living this way.

As a New Year's resolution in January 1999, Lusk went to a Weight Watchers meeting. Although she had joined many times before, this time was easier because of the points system. “I never liked being told I can't have this or that. She started eating a lot more fruits and vegetables and reaching for healthy staples such as egg whites. This enabled her to enjoy a hearty portion size but stick to the points plan.

“I hated exercise. I found that you have to make it fun. Find something you enjoy,” she says. She started out on a stationary bike and then worked up to using a treadmill and an elliptical machine. She also worked out with a personal trainer on weights.

“I went from a couch potato to an exercise fanatic,” she says. “I look for ways to get exercise.” She and her family now find activities that are fun but burn calories, such as cycling, roller-skating and climbing up Stone Mountain.

Lusk eventually went to work for Weight Watchers, using her success to motivate others. “I keep my old picture out, so I know what life could be like if I don’t continue,” she said.

“One day my daughter came up to give me a hug, ... she said ‘Mom, my hands can touch,’ ” Sissy Lusk said. “That is something I will never forget.”

I know, it is amazing. I always think that losing a great amount of weight is an extraordinary event. People can't really relate to it until they have a great amount to lose. It's HARD! But it CAN be done. :)
