Don't mess with Texas, baby!
Arianna Chavez, a 30 year old college adviser from San Antonio, Texas, went from 307 pounds to 180 pounds and dropped six clothes sizes!
At Arianna's heaviest, she wore size 26 clothes and now wears a size 14.
The last time Arianna weighed less than 200 pounds, she was 13 years old.
Through her childhood, Arianna was active in sports but once she reached her teens, she stopped.
Coming from a large Latino family, food was always the center of every event. Everything from traditional Tex-Mex cuisine to Texas barbecue, there was always an overabundance of food. It was not uncommon for Arianna to have two or three platefuls of food at these family get-togethers.
Arianna started gaining weight in her teens and continued to do so throughout her college years until she reached an astounding weight - 307 pounds.
Arianna was outgoing and made friends easily but she rarely dated. "I was fortunate to have a large network of friends who never judged me but I was still unhappy inside." She wanted to find love but didn't expect it to ever happen.
A self-described "fast-food addict," Arianna knew the menu at every fast-food restaurant within fives miles of her house. She would eat in her car on her way home and sometimes, feeling unsatisfied, would turn around to go back for more.
"I was convinced I was going to be obese for the rest of my life. That no matter what I did, it wasn't going to change. "
It wasn't until her parents were diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, that Arianna took a long, hard look at where her life was heading. "I knew this was an inevitable scenario for me if I did not decide to change my life - and change it fast," she said.
In 2005, Arianna's best friend and cousin, Leslie, joined LA Weightloss. Arianna was blown away by her cousin's transformation. "After just a few months, she started to look amazing and I decided to join. I was convinced as long as I made the same commitment, it would work for me too - and I was right."
"The first step was to throw out any notions of it being easy or simple. Nothing really important ever is." Arianna lost seven pounds the first week on the program. Within the first few weeks, she noticed a significant change in her energy and the way her clothes fit.
For exercise, Arianna prefers the outdoors. She now jogs one to two times a week and plays tennis every Saturday.
"It's fun when I run into people who can hardly believe it's me or who don't even recognize me. You can't imagine what a boost that gives me and what motivation I have to keep losing and never give up. Every day, I look at life as a blessing, waiting to see what new doors will open. Today, I'm happy to say that those doors are a helluva lot easier to walk through."
