We always have a good visit with his family and friends who live in Rocky Mount. But one of the main reasons we like to go during the summer is so we can go to Atlantic Beach.
Paul and I both love the smells, sights and sounds of the beach. Our son, Dylan, loves it too, of course. And now that we have a baby, Brady, it makes it that much more fun.
We took Brady to the beach last summer, when he was 4 months old. Now that he's 16 months old, it'll be fun watching him toddle around playing in the sand and the ocean.
We will be leaving Conway, AR, Friday evening and will arrive in Rocky Mount, NC, Saturday morning. When we drive at night, we can make the trip in 14½ hours. But when we drive during the day, it can take as long as 17 hours! Ugh.
We don't look forward to the long drive. However, Dylan, loves every minute of it, kicking back and watching movies and listening to his iPod! When I was a kid, the only thing you did for entertainment on trips was sing songs, play I Spy or The Alphabet Game, and irritate your siblings.
Yesterday, I used a vacation day from work to get some things done in preparation for the trip. The main things I needed to get done was renew the tags for the car and get my drivers license renewed. Oh, lovely picture day at the revenue office! When the lady handed me my new license and I saw my picture, I rolled my eyes and sighed. She laughed. I also did some shopping and got a pedicure, so all-in-all, it was a good, productive day!
I was planning on taking the sunscreen I bought for Brady last summer. But I just read EWG Skin Deep's Top Sunscreen Tips and found out that we should buy new sunscreen every year, because it loses it's effectiveness with age.
EWG evaluated 952 sunscreens and the one I bought last year, Banana Boat Baby Tear Free Sunblock Lotion, SPF 50, made #206 on the list - which isn't very good. It received an overall score of '3', which put it at a 'moderate hazard' rating.
So it looks like it's time for me to buy some new sunscreen! I'm going to drop by Target and pick up California Baby SPF 30 Sunscreen Lotion before we leave for North Carolina. When you sort it by sunscreen for children/babies, California Baby takes up four of the top five spots.
Oh, and one last thing... I haven't worked out since Saturday. Yes, I know - I'm a slacker.

Every year, I dread making the long drive to North Carolina. And every year, I insist that we're not going.
This time, I mean it!
hahahahaha! Good one, honey.
Just take the kids and go without me, and no one gets hurt.
Can I get in on this convo??
Paul it sounds like to me, that this is something that Laura really enjoys doing every year, and it's like a family tradition. Any chance you could get just a teeny bit excited for her?? And don't you think she deserves it, since she's done such an awesome job getting herself into shape? I mean, I'm just sayin...LOL
Laura, my husband is the same way about traveling. He hates it! When we lived in Memphis, every month I would always force him to make a trip to my hometown in Mississippi to see my family, which is one reason why we ultimately moved back home. Haha!
And as far as working out goes, I think you have a right to take a break every now and then, don't you? So don't feel bad about not working out. I'm sure preparing for the trip this week, will be a workout in itself.
Anyway, sounds like tons of fun and hope you guys have a wonderful time. Can't wait to see pics! And BE CAREFUL!!
Sounds like fun!! Never thought about the sunscreen, I'll have to look into it. My little one is so fair & I worry about a burn.
Have a great trip!!
I love North Carolina and the beaches along North and South Carolina. When I was a kid we would go to Hilton Head, Carolina and Myrtle Beaches. I loved it. Have a great vacation and thanks for the tip about sunscreen.
Ruthie - You can relate to my situation huh? It IS funny though because every year Paul says we're not going to NC for the summer (because he hates the drive) and EVERY summer, he says "I want to go to the beach!" so we pile in the van and take off. I still haven't worked out. I have so much going on this week plus I just can't get in the mood for it... I've got VACATION FEVER! :) Thanks for the warm wishes.
Irish Mom - I'm looking forward to going to the beach. I learned something new yesterday too. I've always used the same sunscreen year after year (until it runs out). Oops!
Heidi - Thanks for dropping by! :) The beaches on the NC coast are indeed beautiful. I grew up in Houston so we would always go to Galveston beach. Boy, there is no comparison. I love NC beaches! We're looking forward to it.
that is definitely a long road trip, especially with a little one! But, the beauty of the beach outweighs the beast of the drive! :)
have a FUN trip and make lots of memories!
Hi Workout Mommy! I know, the drive is tough (coming home especially) but we're looking forward to it. The beach makes it all worth it.
