Fast: Day 26 - 23.8 lbs so far

Jack LaLanne's Power JuicerThis morning, Paul and I took our Pops with a 10 oz. glass of freshly extracted juice (carrots, celery, tomato and apple). (Note: In regards to the Pops, I take a purple in the morning and a green before going to bed.)

I lost another .2 lbs. We had a Halloween snack day at work today. There were lots of goodies but I stayed away from them.

I felt sorry for the little trick or treaters. Right before sunset, it started raining. But fortunately, the rain stopped and we ended up getting a few visitors.

I fasted 26 days but this evening I blew it. I ate part of a chicken quesadilla. Darn. I'm disappointed in myself in a way but I'm also proud of myself for doing a 26 day fast and losing 24 pounds.

Now I've just got to pick myself up and keep going.

Until tomorrow...

Today's Stats

Weight: 217 / Total Lost: 23.8 lbs.

Fast: Day 25 (15 days to go!) - 23.4 lbs so far

Jack LaLanne's Power JuicerThis morning, Paul and I took our Pops with a 10 oz. glass of freshly extracted juice (carrots, celery, tomato and apple). (Note: In regards to the Pops, I take a purple in the morning and a green before going to bed.)

I lost another .4 lbs. I worked from home today and really enjoyed it because the weather was so nice. The high today was 74°.

My employer had an onsite event today called Pumpkin Palooza. I put Brady in his Scooby Doo costume and took him, Rachael and Paul up to check it all out. We only stayed about twenty minutes because it was kinda lame. It was fun seeing all the little ones dressed up in their costumes though.

Tomorrow is our Halloween snack day and I'm bringing my 'famous' artichoke dip. I hope y'all have a great Halloween! :)

Until tomorrow...

Fast: Day 24 (16 days to go!) 23 lbs so far

Jack LaLanne's Power JuicerThis morning, Paul and I took our Pops with a 10 oz. glass of freshly extracted juice (carrots, celery, tomato and apple). (Note: In regards to the Pops, I take a purple in the morning and a green before going to bed.)

I lost another .2 lbs. I really hate it when I see such a small number but it is what it is.

Sorry I'm late posting this but I fell asleep putting my toddler to sleep last night. That's one thing I've noticed while fasting is that I need eight hours of sleep. Before the fast, I usually got about five or six hours of sleep each night. I'm normally a night owl but not now.

I'll post again later on tonight, hopefully...

Phillip Parham Is Not The Biggest Loser

Phillip ParhamThe black team took a hit this week with Phil receiving the final blow.

Phillip Parham, 41-year-old real estate agent from Greer, SC, was sent home last night. Just last week, his wife Amy was sent home, so they didn't have to be apart from one another for very long.

It wasn't too surprising to see Phil voted off. He was the newest member on the black team and I think Renee, Michelle, and Coleen thought he'd rather be home with his wife and three sons than continue on.

The Biggest Loser Black Team with Trainer Jillian MichaelsPhillip started The Biggest Loser weighing 331 pounds. Seven weeks later and 62 pounds lighter, he left the show weighing 269 pounds.

Since being home, Phil has lost another 44 pounds and now weighs 225 pounds. Phillip's goal is to weigh 175 pounds at the show's finale.

Following is the transcript from Phil's "Where Are They Now?" video:

Prior to being on The Biggest Loser ranch, I would've dreaded coming to the beach, because I would've been afraid to take my shirt off. I would've sat out and watched the kids play. Now I kinda look forward to doing things because I kinda want to show myself off.

I feel like now, I can be a role model for my children and I feel like they look at me in a new light. I think the whole family's benefited from this whole experience. My middle son, Pearson, since I've been home, he's lost 10 pounds and it's just exciting to see that things we've done have kind of inspired others.

Amy: For me to see him out there active with them really makes me feel good because you know boys need their dad to play with them and do sports with them and things. I don't think anyone has ever loved a man as much as I love Phillip. It's really neat to see this change in him. I am so thankful that we did this together because we do everything together and getting healthy has brought us closer. I am so thankful for this experience.

The way I go about life now, I think my kids are going to look at that and see me as the dad they've always wanted.

Fast: Day 22 (18 days to go!) 22.2 lbs so far

Jack LaLanne's Power JuicerI lost another .4 lbs. Even though I'm not, I feel skinny. I feel good in my clothes and it's a nice feeling.

It was a good day. One of my teammates brought a homemade chocolate cake to work today and urged me to have some. I declined, of course. My team made fun of me for not eating any saying, "It's only a piece of cake. It won't hurt you to eat it!" I said, "No. I've got to get ready for my family portrait and every pound counts." They just laughed.

For lunch, Paul and I took our Pops with a 10 oz. glass of freshly extracted juice (carrots, celery, tomato and apple).

This Friday, everyone on my floor is celebrating Halloween by having a snack day. I told you... it never ends! I'm going to bring something and just tough it out. When my teammates ask why I'm not eating, I'll just tell them I'm dieting.

Sorry I didn't get the pictures from yesterday's Pumpkin Patch trip downloaded yet. We just got home from Dylan's football game. Unfortunately, the Wampus Cats lost their last JV game, ending their season with an overall record of 5-3.

We're experiencing a bit of a cold front here in central Arkansas. The temperature was in the mid-40's (and yes, that's cold to me) during the football game and I was freezing! The low tonight and tomorrow night is 32°F. I hate cold weather.

Until tomorrow...

I lost another 1.2 lbs! The kids and I went for a bike ride yesterday so I'm sure that helped.

Today we went to Schaefers & Collins Pumpkin Patch and Farm. The main reason we went is because we thought Brady would enjoy seeing the farm animals and we wanted to pick out a couple of pumpkins. We had such a good time out there. They had lots of slides, swings, see saws, a hay tunnel, and other fun things for kids to play with. Brady wasn't the only one who had a good time. Rachael and Dylan got on the see saw and had so much fun, I wanted to try it out. So, Dylan and I see sawed too. We took lots of pictures and shot some video too. Unfortunately, I haven't downloaded them yet but I'll try to get the pictures on my next post.

Until tomorrow...

Kymm Hansen Lost 144 Pounds!

Kymm HansenWhat a beautiful lady. Kymm Hansen, a 37-year-old actress from Julian, California, went from 307 pounds to 164 pounds in 14 months! Kymm went from wearing a size 26 to a size 8!

“I will not be tormented anymore by scales and books that say I’m barely good enough,” Kymm said of her new body. “I’m focusing now on how I feel. And I feel both physically and mentally strong.”

Raised by a single mother who placed a large emphasis on weight, Kymm – who was a slightly pudgy child – recalls watching her food intake as young as 9 years old. When her mother went on a diet and exercise regime, Kymm went on one as well. When peers on the playground cruelly mocked her size, she emotionally retreated. “I had never been a thin child, but I was a far cry from fat,” Kim said. “But that didn’t stop the teasing from both children and adults alike, who called me names like ‘butterball.’ ”

At home, the young Kymm shared a household with roommates who stocked their communal kitchen with high-calorie, fatty foods that became the ultimate temptation. Since she was left alone most of the day and forbidden to go outside due to an unfenced pool, Kymm found herself stealing their food, hiding candy wrappers between couch cushions while watching hours of TV. And so began Kymm’s long relationship with sneaking food. It didn’t help that the roommate, an adult mom, likened Kymm’s size to that of an elephant.

“Having an adult say something like that, when others had already teased me about my size, confirmed in my mind that they must be right,” Kymm recalled.

Kymm’s unhealthy eating habits and guilt followed her well into adulthood. Her weight, along with her self-esteem, fluctuated throughout her teens and 20s. When she finished high school and moved to New York City, she used her newfound freedom to eat even more, whenever she pleased. But the more she consumed, the more she damaged her already fragile self-image and her relationships. At 308 pounds, she was so ashamed of her body that she opted to spend much of her time isolated from her friends and family.

“I was unable to believe that people accepted me the way I was,” said Kymm Hansen. “Comments such as ‘You have such a pretty face’ would be interpreted as ‘It’s a shame we can’t do something about the rest of you!’ ”

Kymm admits she used food for “everything.” It became a source of comfort, a quick solution to boredom, and even a means of further torturing herself. She viewed food as a constant companion that would console her, until it ultimately made her feel worse. Personally attached to her favorite foods, Kymm didn’t know how to quit.

Kymm’s situation escalated when she accepted a position as an instructional aide in her school district. Teachers' staff rooms were often filled with baked goods and homemade casseroles, and Kymm would eat the free treats in addition to the huge lunch she brought to work. To silence her guilt, she adopted a Scarlett O’Hara attitude.

“I knew I was eating too much, but I would always tell myself that I would start watching what I was eating tomorrow. I mean, I was already fat, was one more day going to hurt? So I would be ‘good’ for a day or two and then blow it for a week or two.” It was a vicious cycle that left Kymm even further isolated from her family and social circle. “Food affected every aspect of my life,” she said. “It became all-encompassing.”

Kymm suffered both physically and emotionally from the burden of her weight. Apart from the daily obstacles (the heavy panting and achy back) she was in constant pain from the pressure weighing down on her left foot, which stiffened frequently while walking. Her orthopedic surgeon told her that if she failed to lose a substantial amount of weight, she could look forward to an invasive foot surgery.

But the worst aspect for Kymm was emotional. She hated the feeling that she was wasting her life, that she neglected to fervently pursue her lifelong goal of becoming an actress.

“My life goals were replaced with thoughts of what I would pick up to eat at the store and what movie I would watch while eating it,” Kymm said. “I felt hopeless. ”

Determined to stop wasting precious time, Kymm enrolled in school to pursue a degree in theater arts. But despite her step forward, her problems followed. A year into the program, it dawned on her that she was relatively unknown in her class, primarily because she lacked the self-confidence and drive to give it her all. She had great grades, but few knew her name. And it could all be traced back to her weight, and how people treated her because of her appearance.

“I once held a school door open for two people to pass through in front of me; they walked through and let the next set of doors close on me,” Kymm recalled. “I realized I wasn’t apparent to them. I was virtually invisible, not because of malice, but rather a lack of thought. I wasn’t spending much thought on myself, so why should they?”

Tired and frustrated, Kymm knew she needed to make a drastic change to reclaim her life. The solution came when she was least expecting it:“While watching television as I was eating pizza and a cinnamon roll, an LA Weight Loss commercial came on and it brought me to tears. The woman in the commercial was so happy and I was so unhappy.”

Kymm called right away, drove to the center and immediately signed up. With encouragement from friends and family, she began working toward her goal.

When Kymm stepped on the LA Weight Loss scale, she was mortified to read the number: 308 pounds. But within just the first three days, she lost 6 pounds. “I was hooked,” Kymm said of her early success. “Every week from there on I was losing a minimum of 2 pounds.”

Once Kymm got into the rhythm of restricting her diet to healthy foods, she saw weight loss completely differently - as freeing. She met with her counselors privately three times a week to assess her daily intake and monitor her exercise routine, which she started out by alternating between one to two miles of walking almost every day. After just a few months, Kymm increased her regimen to walking in addition to working out on the elliptical machine every day – which helped her lose 50 pounds. The payoff was twofold: she felt better, and she was finally cast in her first leading role.

She continued increasing and varying her exercise regime in conjunction with watching her diet, and the weight came off at “an amazingly quick rate.” With her mother’s motto of “everything you do is a choice," Kymm committed herself to planning out her meals in a food journal and checking them off each day. After 14 months, Kymm lost a total of 144 pounds and now weighs in at 164.

“I now view food as a way of feeding my body what it needs, not just what my appetite wants,” she said. “When I make good choices, I feel energetic, focused, and healthy.”

In addition to her health, Kymm also credits more solid self-confidence to her new lifestyle. No longer is she ignored or passed over; she is now more willing to put herself out there and express her thoughts or opinions. People treat her differently, and she’s seen a vast improvement in both her friendships and family relationships.

Kymm is thankful for a second chance. She knows what can happen to those who don’t take responsibility for their lives, and now she does all she can to manage the uncontrollable habits she once gave in to. “We are where we are because we made a choice or a choice was made for us, but we stay where we are because we choose to stay,” Kymm said. “Little choices and changes take longer, but they do add up. Even indecision is a choice.”

Kymm's mantra: "Change what you can, accept what you can't and while you're changing what you can, sometimes the things you thought couldn't change do."

We're getting ready to go see Dylan play football. Tonight is homecoming and the Wampus Cats are favored to win. According to the coaches, Dylan should be prepared to play center for part of the game tonight (he usually only plays on special teams for varsity) - so he's excited about that.

I hope y'all have a great weekend!

Nutritionist Talks Straight About Weight Loss

Cheryl Norberg, RDCheryl Forberg, the nutritionist who co-wrote "The Biggest Loser" diet plan, has helped contestants lose thousands of pounds and transform their bodies and lives on the NBC-TV show.

A registered dietitian and chef, Forberg, stresses the importance of focusing on the quality of food as much as the quantity of calories.

Following is Forberg's take on healthy eating and "Loser."

How did you get involved with "The Biggest Loser"?

"Loser" was the first weight-loss show on TV; they had no idea how it would go over. A colleague at UCLA did the first season and happened to be working on another project and couldn't continue. I've done all except the first season.

The Biggest Loser Weight Loss ProgramWhat are three simple changes people can make to be more healthful?

(1.) Give up the white stuff (sugar, flour, etc.) if you want to get the scales moving. It's an invaluable step to take.

(2.) Keep a food journal. Food journaling is a very powerful tool.

(3.) Make time for exercise that you love. It can be dancing, hula hooping, whatever, as long as you burn calories.

Why do you use agave nectar, not sugar, in your recipes?

Agave nectar is similar to honey but a little thinner and with a lighter taste. It has a relatively low glycemic index and has some antioxidants.

Were you ever overweight?

I gained about 25 to 30 pounds in college. I signed up for some crazy weight-loss plan. I was spending a lot of money on a very low-calorie diet, but the high cost motivated me to stick with it. I was 19 at the time, and I learned that for the rest of my life, I can't eat what I want.

Losing weight is one thing; maintaining is another. How is that done?

Once you reach your weight, you can slowly reintroduce foods and see what happens. At the same time you reach your goal weight, you're probably slowing down on the exercise. If weight starts to creep up again, never let it go more than 3, 4, 5 pounds tops.

What are some good snack foods?

An apple or orange sounds like a healthy snack but it's not. You need to have a little protein, carbohydrate and healthy fat at each meal and snack.

Have an apple with a mozzarella stick or almonds; apple slices with peanut butter; a carton of yogurt (Forberg recommends Greek yogurt because of its higher protein count); edamame; half of a sandwich made with whole-grain bread, mustard and turkey; a smoothie.

You mentioned, with the exception of dairy, calories should come from food, not beverages. Besides water, what else is good?

Drinking three to four cups of green tea a day can kick up your metabolism by 80 calories. Green tea also has lots of anti-aging compounds.

What kind of diet plan are contestants on?

They eat four cups of fruit and vegetables, mostly vegetables, lots of lean protein like turkey, chicken without skin, egg whites, red meat occasionally, lots of dairy. It's a modified low-carb -- a little higher in protein because we're doing a lot of exercise. The first couple of weeks, it's literally detox -- no sugar. All of a sudden, contestants are eating all this healthy stuff. They sleep well, think clearly, their hair shines. They don't remember the last time they felt this good.

How many calories does a woman contestant eat per day on the show?

About 1,200. Three hundred calories for breakfast, lunch and dinner and 150-calorie snacks twice a day. They can have snacks at different times of their choice. We like them to have a little complex carbohydrate, protein and healthy fat at each meal and snack. The biggest man -- we have some football players -- might get 2,400.

What about water?

I recommend eight glasses of water. Probably on the show they drink gallons because they exercise so much.

What do you do if you're dieting and hungry?

Eat more. If you get too hungry, you'll eat too much the next meal, too fast and the wrong things. We want them to be satisfied. If you feel calories are not enough, let's kick it up another 200 calories, considering you're eating the proper balance (45 percent complex carbohydrates, 30 percent protein and 25 percent healthy fats). If you're eating 75 percent carbohydrates, we're not going to (increase calories).

How many days a week should you exercise?

Five, maybe six.

Amy Parham is not The Biggest Loser

Amy ParhamAnother one bites the dust.

Amy Parham, 40-year-old real estate agent from Greer, SC., was voted off last night by the blue team.

The blue team lost the least amount of body percentage weight so they were forced to send a team member home. Heba, Vicky and Brady, formed an alliance at the start of the season so I knew it would either be Amy P. or Amy C. that was sent home. It became obvious Amy P. was going home because Heba can't stand Amy P.'s husband, Phillip (the feeling is mutual), and knew sending her home would hurt him. The final vote tally was 3 votes for Amy P. and 2 votes for Brady (Amy P. and Amy C.'s votes).

Amy started The Biggest Loser weighing 229 pounds and wearing size 20 clothes. She is now wearing a size 8! Amy's goal for the finale is to weigh 130 pounds. At the beginning of the season, Amy couldn't even walk on the treadmill for five minutes. Six weeks later, she was running and walking on the treadmill for hours. I'm always amazed with how quickly the human body responds to exercise. It's amazing!

Following is Amy's "Where Are They Now?" video transcript:
When I came to The Biggest Loser ranch, I was a size 20. Now I'm a size 8!

The life I'm living now is something that I thought I'd lost forever. Since I've left The Biggest Loser ranch, my life has really improved.

I always wanted to look pretty in clothes. I always wanted to wear the cute little stylish clothes and now I can go shopping and buy the cute little tops, the leggings, and cute jeans, and feel comfortable in them.

It always makes you feel good when your kids are proud of you. And so, it made me feel good when I came out in those outfits and they said, "Wow, Mom. That looks really good."

I feel like I'm a much better mom, now that I've lost this weight.

Going horseback riding is something I would have never considered before because I would be concerned for the horse!

Horses have a calming influence on autistic children.

Rhett: "I can do so much more stuff with my mom now. "

Rhett to his mom: "I love riding horses with you, Mom."

Amy: "You do?"

Rhett: "Yeah."

Amy: "I love you, Rhett."

Rhett: "I love my new skinny mom."

When Rhett was diagnosed, I really gave up a lot of dreams for him. And I gave up a lot of dreams for myself.

And so now, going through this experience, I feel like a lot of those dreams are coming back to me. And I'm real excited about that.

--Amy Parham
Now at home, Amy works out for 3-1/2 hours every day. Her trainer, DJ Jordan of Carolina Fitness Center, has Amy weight training three days per week and on the other days doing intense cardio.

Fast: Day 16 (24 days to go!) - 17.2 lbs so far

Jack LaLanne's Power JuicerThis morning, Paul and I took our Pops with a 10 oz. glass of freshly extracted juice (carrots, celery, tomato and apple). (Note: In regards to the Pops, I take a purple in the morning and a green before going to bed.)

I lost another .2 pounds. I know, it sounds pretty pathetic. Oh well, whatcha gonna do?

One thing's for sure. It's days like this that make me want to stop fasting and say, "Forget this!" and grab a couple of chocolate iced donuts. It would be pretty easy since the box of donuts are sitting six feet to my left. My team leader brought them in this morning. My coworkers were all indulging and urged me to have one. I declined.

Truthfully, I wasn't tempted by the donuts. In fact, I wasn't even hungry. I'm almost to the halfway point of the fast and the last two weeks have been so easy that I feel encouraged to continue.

Another thing I'm pumped about is how loose my pants are. Yippeee!!! :)

Until tomorrow...

Fast Day 15: (25 days to go) - 17 lbs so far

Jack LaLanne's Power JuicerI lost another .6 pounds.

I had a good day today. It's hard to believe that I've been fasting fourteen days. It doesn't seem like that long.

As I was leaving my desk and heading toward the elevator, a coworker said, "Have you lost weight?" I smiled and said, "Yes, I've lost around 15 pounds." She congratulated me and went around the corner. She was the first person to notice I'd lost any weight and it really made me feel good.

Paul and I went out of town to Cabot tonight to watch Dylan and the Wampus Cats play their JV football game. Unfortunately they lost tonight, 21 to 0. Ouch!

That's pretty much all I've got for now.

Until tomorrow...

Fast Day 14: (26 days to go) - 16.4 lbs so far

Jack LaLanne's Power JuicerI lost another 1.2 pounds. I guess that bike ride did some good! :)

The kids and I went bike riding again today. The weather yesterday and today was absolutely beautiful - sunny and mild. The high today was 69°F.

I don't know how many miles we traveled but we were gone an hour. We went riding around old town Conway, which is close to where we live.

A train was going through downtown, so we rode down a street beside the train so Brady could see it. On our way back home, we stopped by see my dad and stepmom and visit for a few minutes. We had to cut the visit short because I needed to get home in time to log on to my work PC and take care of some business (this was my weekend to be oncall).

Well, that's it for now. I'm getting ready to hit the sack. I hope your weekend was enjoyable.

Until tomorrow...

Chef Wins Prize For Eating Belly Buster

Brad SciulloMan! The thought of one person eating so much food makes me ill. But alas, this is the life of a competitive eater.

Imagine eating 30 hamburgers at one sitting. That's about what 21-year-old Brad Sciullo, of Uniontown, PA, ate Monday when he became the first person to finish the 15-pound burger (with another 5.2 pounds of toppings) on the menu at Denny's Beer Barrel Pub in Clearfield, PA.

Scuillo, a 5-foot-11-inch, 180-pound competitive eater, works as a chef at Pasta Lorenzo's in South Union. He said he decided on a whim to take on the "buster" to take advantage of his preparation for the pizza contest. He usually practices by stuffing himself in spurts, then relying on a liquid diet for two days before a competition.

He ate the $50 Beer Barrel Belly Buster in four hours and 39 minutes, beating by 21 minutes the time limit set by the restaurant to win $400, a certificate and three T-shirts.

A team of two usually tries to eat the 15-pounder, he said, but nobody's come close. After almost five hours of chewing, Sciullo said he was wiped out.

"You sit on the steps of the restaurant and feel like you got beat up by eight people," he said.

As is customary in such challenges, Sciullo was appointed a pub escort. Philip Fimon, a cook, stayed with Sciullo through the eating frenzy, even going with him to the bathroom three times to make sure he didn't throw up, Liegey said.

Sciullo's feat follows his first-place ranking by eating 20 cannolis in six minutes at the Feast of San Gennaro in New York City on Sept. 12. He's also been in timed contests for munching wings, hot dogs and shoofly pie.

The 15-pounder isn't the only burger offered for competition at Denny's. Patrons also can dine on 6, 3 and 2-pound sandwiches. And, believe it or not, Denny's has an even larger burger, The Belly Bruiser, on the menu. Costing $179, it features two 25-pound beef patties, four pounds of cheese, five heads of lettuce, a couple of onions, a cup of peppers, a jar of relish, and loads of ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise - all between two made-to-order buns.

Like the 15-pound Belly Buster and the 6-pound Olde 96er, The Belly Bruiser must be ordered 24 hours in advance.

Fast: Day 12 (28 days to go!) - 14.6 lbs so far

Jack LaLanne's Power JuicerThis morning, I overslept and woke up 25 minutes before time to leave for work!

In my haste, I forgot to weigh myself. I didn't juice either.

I didn't hear the alarm going off, can you believe it? That's sleeping hard, ladies and gentlemen!

Until tomorrow...

Lisa Griffis Lost 177 Pounds!

Lisa GriffisWow! Can you imagine what it must feel like to lose half your weight? It's no wonder the two pictures of Lisa Griffis look nothing alike.

This remarkable 49-year-old journalist from Cleveland, Ohio, lost 177 pounds! Lisa went from weighing 340 pounds to weighing 163 pounds. And she has maintained that weight for 2-1/2 years.

According to Lisa, she grew up in a family of hearty eaters. Her parents and siblings all had weight issues and most meals at home contained mayonnaise, sour cream or Cool Whip. In high school, Lisa recalls always being the largest girl in class.

After Lisa graduated college, she worked as a journalist chasing jobs across the country. An emotional eater, Lisa binged on food to compensate for loneliness and job stress.

She ate to make herself feel better, but it was a vicious cycle that only made her feel worse. “I couldn’t control what was going on so I overate,” she said. “I never stopped until the container was empty.”

Growing up, Lisa was used to being called "fatso" or "lard butt" by her school peers. But one hurtful incident remains with Lisa to this day. One Halloween, as she walked her dog, kids in a car sped by to throw eggs at her and yell “fat ass” out the window. The eggs left temporary bruises - but their words left marks for years to come.

Emotionally, Lisa felt defeated. She considered herself a hopeless cause, with little encouragement from her friends or family. “Giving up on my problem because it seemed insurmountable felt like I was giving up on myself,” Lisa said.

Lisa thought about dieting on a regular basis but never put a plan into action. Weighing 340 pounds, Lisa's doctors asked her to consider gastric bypass surgery, but she ignored their suggestion.

The turning point came one day while Lisa was looking at a recent group photo of herself with old college friends. Lisa says she didn't recognize herself. She said it was like looking at a picture of a stranger.

“I had employed my usual trick of hiding behind people to cover up just how large I had become,” Lisa said. “But I realized that at 340 pounds, I couldn't ignore the words ‘morbidly obese’ any longer. I was too young to die.”

It was at that moment that Lisa decided to do something about her weight. She grabbed her Suzanne Somers book (Eat, Cheat and Melt the Fat Away) off the shelf and read it for the first time. This was the first of many books that Lisa read and took to heart as she began change her lifestyle.

Lisa became her own nutritionist and trainer. She assembled a gym in her basement using an exercise ball, weights, and workout DVDs. “It felt great to take charge of my life,” she said.

With the motto “nothing tastes as good as being thin,” Lisa began limiting her food choices to home-cooked meals, since she knew she lacked control in restaurants.

Lisa lost the first 100 pounds in 18 months and the following year, lost the remaining 77 pounds.

Today, Lisa works out nearly three hours a day, not because she needs to, but because she loves being active. Lisa enjoys walking, riding her bike and swimming.

Although she still experiences some setbacks, including stress-eating, she’s better able to recognize her bad behavior before it consumes her day. “I try to take a minute to breathe and relax instead of reaching for food,” she said.

Lisa's dream of one day being a normal sized person has come to fruition.

"Now I know that anything is possible."

Fast: Day 11 (29 days to go!) - 14.6 lbs so far

Jack LaLanne's Power JuicerI've lost another .6 pounds. For breakfast, Paul and I took our Pops with a 10 oz. glass of freshly extracted juice (carrots, celery, tomato and apple). (Note: In regards to the Pops, I take a purple in the morning and a green before going to bed.)

I worked from home today so I missed the office party Mexican fiesta - which is a good thing. I did not need the temptation. I think I could've handled it but it never hurts to be on the safe side.

I cooked dinner tonight for the family and didn't experience hunger or temptation. I baked chicken breasts, fried potatoes with onion, macaroni and cheese, and green beans. Everybody enjoyed it. I love cooking for my family.

Until tomorrow...

Fast: Day 10 (30 days to go!) - 14 lbs so far

Jack LaLanne's Power JuicerI've lost another .4 pounds. I'm happy to report, I've had no problem with hunger today.

This morning, Paul and I took our Pops with a 10 oz. glass of freshly extracted juice (carrots, celery, tomato and apple). (Note: In regards to the Pops, I take a purple in the morning and a green before going to bed.)

I didn't go home for lunch and instead spent my lunch break working on my blog. While I worked on the post about Biggest Loser Shellay Cremen, my coworker ate lunch at her desk. Her lunch was last night's leftovers of brisket and all the fixins. Oh my goodness, did it ever smell good! Though the aroma was wonderful, I didn't suffer hunger pains.

I have arranged to work from home tomorrow in order to avoid the office party Mexican fiesta. They'll be eating soft tacos, cheese dip, chips and salsa, Vlad's fried potatoes, and cookies. Sounds good, doesn't it?

Until tomorrow...
